Our 2025 Grant Cycle is Open
Our mission is to provide children of color in underserved communities with the opportunities to reach their unlimited potential. Our goal is to strengthen a child’s ability to succeed in life and to give them the power to inspire others.
We are focused on finding local organizations who may not otherwise be able to secure the funding as they are their own best kept secrets. They often lack the internal resources to develop the networks and do the research and outreach necessary to obtain the funding on their own.
FAQs
Our mission is to provide children of color in underserved communities with the opportunities to reach their unlimited potential. Our goal is to strengthen a child’s ability to succeed in life and to give them the power to inspire others. We believe in a holistic approach to developing children.
We work towards creating a network of partnerships that:
- Cultivates social-emotional learning which helps children develop crucial life skills such as resilience, responsible decision making, self-awareness, and empathy.
- Provides safe spaces where children can learn, grow, explore, and be curious.
Our funding is directed toward socio-emotional wellness, literacy, and cultural enrichment. We are focused on finding local organizations who may not otherwise be able to secure the funding as they are their own best kept secrets. They often lack the internal resources to develop the networks and do the research and outreach necessary to obtain the funding on their own.
Socio-Emotional Learning
At the core of learning are the socio-emotional elements of self-awareness and self-management. Providing elementary-aged children with the tools, spaces and places that make them feel safe, confident and allow them to develop these skills in communities sets the right foundation for the curiosity, resilience, and desire for continuous learning they will need to grow.
Literacy Development Opportunities
We believe that children have unlimited potential when they have access to equitable educational opportunities. We think of literacy well beyond reading and writing, it is becoming literate in all the elements of our world that will help children navigate and soar. Not only do these opportunities strengthen a child’s ability to succeed in life but they can also inspire others to do the same.
Cultural Enrichment Opportunities
Gabrielle’s Wings partners with organizations with aligned culturally focused programs, funding projects that give children the ability to experience the potential and possibilities the world offers.
One area of focus is expanding on the success we have experienced with Peace Corners. We have created Peace Corners in schools, camps, and libraries that provide safe, welcoming spaces for children to manage their anxiety, learn about themselves, and build the confidence to return to the classrooms or camps, making the most of their education. Each is designed to fit the culture and environment of our partner, but with the same underlying purpose and tools. Peace Corners are reducing absenteeism, giving children the skills and tools to cope and go back to class versus going home, and increasing test scores.
For examples of our partnerships, visit our website.
We look for partners who are impacting children of color in the K-8 grade age level. In addition, we evaluate applications considering the demographics of the community – focusing on the systemically underserved and historically excluded.
We are interested in engaging with organizations in multiple ways. Our partnerships include:
- Regular communication about the work
- Brainstorming about approach
- Evaluating progress and success using agreed upon metrics
Gabrielle’s Wings works closely with our partners, in hopes of developing a foundation that can be sustained and scaled. As a result, you will see the application requests detail on scope, in-house resources to focus on the work, financials, measurable outcomes, and reporting ability. We stay in close touch and work with our partners as they implement their plans.
Please note, based on the terms of our 501c3 certification, all grants are made to US based organizations only.
The average amount of grants to date has been $9,000. Most grants fell between $4,000-$15,000.
We do NOT fund salaries or other recurring costs that would put the sustainability of the work at risk if the same level of funding was not available over multiple years.
Proposals will be accepted both from current partners and from unsolicited requesters, providing the work is aligned with our mission and funding priorities.
If you are interested in applying, please email to request a Grant Application. We have one grant cycle annually. Applications will be accepted from January 6 through March 3. Please provide as much detail as possible to position us to evaluate the work. If you have questions as you complete your application, please feel free to reach out.
All applications are first reviewed by our Partner Evaluation Committee, who selects which will be passed on to the full Board for review and approval.
All decisions will be communicated no later than May 5, 2025. We will follow up on all decisions, whether a grant is approved or denied.
